Team is actively working now on extension for VS Code with plan to fill it with functionality currently available in RhoStudio and to extend it further.
At the moment Running apps on RhoSim and devices is avaliable. Ruby debugging also works.
Extension is available in VSCode marketplace:

Note that it is early pre-alpha builds now.
